The picturesque village of Maria Alm lies in the midst of unspoiled nature, surrounded by the imposing Steinernes Meer mountain range and the lush green grassy mountains, in particular the Hundstein (2117 m).

The village of Maria Alm has a unique charm that brings people closer together: a central point is the village square, where you can find everything you need, where you can meet up with those you want to meet, and where sometimes a chance meeting will lead to a new friendship; one that can be cemented further over a beer in the village inn. The tower of the pilgrimage Church of Maria Alm rises over the scene; at 76 m, it is the tallest tower in Salzburgerland and is the emblem of the small village.

The parish of Maria Alm also includes Hinterthal and Hintermoos, both at an altitude of 1000 m above sea level and nestled in the Alpine mountain environment.
